Gathered Table
Jack wanted to create a three-dimensional form by transforming one two-dimensional shape into another; in this case a triangle into a circle. Additionally, he wanted to create a flowing tapered pedestal, made using a rigid material such as steel. To achieve this effect, the differing perimeter lengths of the two shapes needed to be overcome.
The solution: to gather the steel, with a similar technique as is used in dressmaking. Although the size and shape at the top and bottom are completely different, the perimeters are identical in length.
The Gathered table has been designed for LOAM’s internal product range.
